Linder Young Learners Academy is also home to two classrooms for children with Autism, The Learning Lane at Linder, one of our family of schools. The Learning Lane program serves learners with autism or other developmental disabilities ranging in ages from 12 months to 7 years old.
Each child receives individualized services based on their needs. Assessments conducted will determine starting points in language, social, self-care, play, and group responding, in addition to other needs that may need to be addressed. The range of services includes 1:1 or 1:2 instruction which will provide a platform to learn new skills; small group (2-3 students per teacher) that will promote group behavior and group learning, as well as whole group learning which usually entails a group of 4-6 students to one instructor. For those that are emerging in their group responding repertoire, additional instructors to serve as prompters or shadows may aid in this process.
The Learning Lane has small rooms available with minimal distractions (“Acquisition Rooms”) for those students who may initially require fewer distractions in the learning environment to be successful. In addition, larger rooms (“Classrooms”) provide an opportunity for small group and larger group learning. Finally, there is a room in which an in-house designed curriculum is utilized to boost play skills based on certain themes
The Learning Lane Program is a center-based, intensive treatment program based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis; it specializes in working with children with autism and language delays. The center is open to children between the ages of 12 months to 7 years. We encourage typically developing children to enroll in the center, as this will benefit all children immensely from shared growth and learning experiences. Inclusion provides a challenging, enlightening, and motivating environment for all children. The treatment plan provides services in the areas of behavior, academics, and language development. Each child rotates through three settings a day. Pre- academic class where the children learn pre-classroom skills in a small group setting to prepare them for a typical school setting. Acquisition class where the child works one on one on new skills along with some independents skill to prepare them for pre-academic and social class. Social class provides the children an opportunity to play and learn from one another in a small group. Each setting employs both intensive teaching and natural teaching strategies. We also provide “hands-on” training to parents of the children who attend the center by having the parent attend and actively participate in their child’s therapy session at least once per month to stay “up-to-date” on their child’s programming. We welcome you to The Learning Lane and hope to make every child feel triumphant!
